Hierve El Agua
Explore one of only two petrified waterfalls in the world. It’s in our backyard, and is one of the most special and least visited wonders of Oaxaca.
Your early morning departure ensures you enjoy Hierve el Agua almost exclusively. Hiking to the base of the petrified waterfalls involves uneven steps, some rocky terrain and a steep incline on the way back up, but the rewards far outweigh the physical challenges. Take your time. Stop and enjoy everything this site has to offer you, from spectacular views of the Sierras to the petrified formations of the cascade.
Returning to the top we cool down with a swim in the mineralized pools overlooking the valley and the distant mountains. When ready we move up to the shaded palapas for lunch, also with a great view.
After such a great morning, we continue to indulge the senses with homemade bread, salads and market fresh ingredients put together to showcase flavours and respect your dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc). The view of the mountains from under the palapas is truly remarkable, too.
We now head back towards the city. Depending upon your interest and energy we have the option to stop off for visits: to the Yagul archaeological site, a mezcal tasting, shopping at the rug village in Teotitlan or a walk around the Tule Tree.
Your day includes all transportation and site entrance fees, guided hike, homemade lunch, snacks, water, drinks, and towels for after your swim in the spectacular mineralized pools.
The day is yours, geared to your pace, interests and energy.
We limit our outings to 5 guests from the same party, on the day of your choosing subject to availability, of course.
