Oaxaca Mountains and Pacific Coast Motorcycle Ride

Do you like curvy mountain roads? Do you like warm weather? Do you like coastal views? Do you like friendly rustic villages? Do you like fresh mountain air in the mornings? All this and more is available to you through Go Well Tours’ Mountain and Coastal Motorcycle Ride. Come along with us this winter and say goodbye to cold winter or boredom. A motorcycle and hotels are provided, just bring your riding gear.

The city of Oaxaca, about a 6 hour drive south of Mexico City is one of the safest areas in Mexico and named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a Spanish colonial city rich in culture, history and architecture and rapidly becoming a food destination. The city is situated in a central valley between 2 mountain ranges which provide many beautiful twisty mountain roads with outstanding vistas for the motorcycle enthusiast. The city is located just 250 km/155 miles from the Pacific coast but because of the mountains the ride can be 6 beautiful hours.

The coast road between the resort area of Huatulco and the famous surf town of Puerto Escondido is dotted with many beaches and sites like Zipolite, Mazunte, San Agustinillo and Agua Blanca to name a few. There are opportunities to go boating on the ocean and visit turtle and crocodile sanctuaries.

San Jose Del Pacifico, our overnight stop on the way back to Oaxaca City is at 8,000 feet with comfortable cabins complete with fireplace. The views are spectacular with misty mountain vistas, flowers and birds. The town is famous for its magic mushrooms with their hallucinogenic effects. Note that the mushrooms are illegal. There are many mushrooms in the area but only available between July and October. Our ride back to Oaxaca City affords a late start so that the morning in the mountains can truly be enjoyed.

Daily Plan

Day 1

The first day is an orientation to the bikes and the Oaxacan roads. After selecting and checking out the bikes we head out for an easy and fun day of riding up into the Sierra Norte mountains to the birthplace of Benito Juárez, the first president of independent Mexico.

Day 2

Having mastered lane-splitting, tope (speed bumps) identification and the use of the paved shoulder as a second lane, we are ready to head out on our adventure. Day 2 will be our longest riding day through twisty mountain roads where we pass through the magic mushroom town of San Jose Del Pacifico and then on to Santa Maria Huatulco and finally arriving at Crucecita, our base for two nights.

Day 3-4

In the morning we have a short ride down to the dock where we board our private boat for the day. We will visit up to 7 bays, some of which can only be accessed by boat. At each beach stop we can swim, snorkel, suntan on the beach, possibly seeing no other people. We will stop for lunch at one of the larger beaches. In the evening we can enjoy the town sites and many restaurants and bars.

Day 5

The next day is one of the shortest riding days but also the longest travel day because we will stop at many interesting sites along the coast like Puerto Angel, Zipolite, Mazunte and San Agustinillo. If there is interest we may also visit the turtle sanctuary and other beaches along the way to Puerto Escondido.

Day 6

We have a free day in Puerto Escondido to watch the surfers, enjoy the beach, work on our tans and maybe take a surf lesson.

Day 7

It is now time to start the ride back to Oaxaca city. We ride back to San Jose Del Pacifico where we will spend the night in comfortable cabanas. We can watch the sun go down behind the mountains and enjoy the fresh mountain air. We will have a late start in the morning so that we may spend some quiet time communing with nature. After lunch we mount our bikes and head back to our final destination, Oaxaca city.

Day 8

We have the evening to walk about the city, to shop, visit museums and enjoy free activities offered in the city. This would be the end of our tour.
