Sundays at Yagul & Tlacolula

Yagul is evidently the most studied archeological site in the Oaxaca valley, and Sunday mornings, in the quiet and cooler hours, is in our opinion the perfect time to explore it. From the centre ceremonial plaza to the ball court, and a short hike up to the "fort" allows time to step back in time and imagine life in this incredible agriculturally rich valley.

After exploring Oaxaca's past, we head back up the road to plunge into one of the oldest market's in Latin America. We usually wander the market for an hour and a bit. You can buy mangos and fake Levis jeans, used sewing machines, and goat barbeque.

Option: We are happy to stop at Don Agave, one of our favorite mezcal distilleries, for lunch and a mezcal tasting, on the way back into the city.
